The eighth season of the Children’s Vegetable Garden has come to a close. The last day in the garden was bustling with families harvesting their crops and sharing with each other the bounty of their hard work over the last three months.
Over the season they planted carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, squash, tomatoes, cabbage, kale, snapdragons, radish, cilantro, and lettuce. An early freeze in October destroyed part of their crop, but they toiled on. Many parents were impressed with the amount of food they were able to harvest despite the hardships they had.
The children in the vegetable garden learned valuable life skills and a true appreciation for all of the hard work that goes into growing food. Please enjoy these photos of their harvest and celebrate with us in congratulating them for a job well done!
The PHP Children’s Vegetable Garden is a cooperative project of San Antonio Parks and Recreation, Phil Hardberger Park Conservancy, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, and Bexar County Master Gardeners.
