A park visitor secures the harnesses on her dogs before leaving the dog park.

Phil Hardberger Park is a great place to bring your four-legged friends. Dogs are welcome on leash throughout the park and off-leash in the two dog parks.

Hardberger Park is a natural area and is managed for the use of people and wildlife. Please keep your pups on the trail or within the dog parks. Going off trail can lead to possible run-ins with wildlife, especially unwanted ones. Skunks, ticks, and chiggers are not fun to run into. Additionally, some animals nest or shelter on the ground, and walking off-trail could damage essential habitats.

Following the rules below is the best way to keep you, your four-legged family members, and the wildlife in the park safe.

Park Rules

  • Dogs must be on a 6-foot leash when not inside the dog parks.

  • Stay on the trail.

  • Dog owners/handlers must have control of the leash at all times.

  • Dog owners/handlers are responsible for picking up and disposing of their dog's waste. Mutt Mitt dispensers and trash cans are placed throughout the park.

  • Never leave dogs unattended.

  • Do not tie up pets to vegetation or trees.

As this video humorously puts it, there is no poop fairy!

We can all do our part to keep the trails clean by picking up after our pets and carrying it to the nearest trash can.

Don’t Ditch the Doggie Doo!

Please be like this awesome park visitor!

An unsightly and worldwide issue is discarding bagged dog poop along the trails. Please do your part and pick up after your pets AND dispose of the waste in the proper trash receptacles.

If you want to do MORE, we always need volunteers to help us keep the trails clean of litter. We are incredibly grateful for the people who pick up discarded bags on their walks or runs. You can even report your hours here.

Top 3 Reasons:

  • Ditching poop bags is littering.

  • Picking up after your pet is the law. If caught, fines can range from $100 to $2,000! Learn more here.

  • Dog poop and the bags get washed into our waterways during rain events, contaminating our watershed and clogging drainage areas.
