Voting, Presidents and Our Parks Family Program

  • Urban Ecology Center Classroom 8400 Northwest Military Highway San Antonio, TX, 78231 (map)

Join us at Phil Hardberger Park for a special election year program with Catherine Stier, author of award-winning children’s books, and representatives from the San Antonio League of Women Voters. This is a “Come & Go” event - families may stop in for one or both story times, create an election-themed craft and vote for their favorite wildlife inhabitants while enjoying a day together at the park! All ages welcome (children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian).

10:00 am – A VOTE IS A POWERFUL THING STORYTIME AND DISCUSSION

Catherine Stier reads her book A VOTE IS A POWERFUL THING (School Library Journal Starred Review). Next, join in our discussion of how people have campaigned to protect parks and natural areas – just like Callie and her grandma champion their community’s wilderness park in this story!

10:30 am – FUTURE VOTER CRAFTS AND ACTIVITIES

Stop by our crafts table where kids can create their own “Future Voter” campaign-style buttons , draw themselves as President, or take part in additional activities provided by the San Antonio League of Women Voters. And be sure to stop by the ballot box to vote for your favorite wildlife inhabitants of Phil Hardberger Park!

11:00 am – IF I RAN FOR PRESIDENT STORYTIME AND DISCUSSION

Catherine Stier reads her book IF I RAN FOR PRESIDENT (Amazon’s Teacher’s Pick and Library Media Editor’s Choice Award), followed by anecdotes of how past presidents have worked to protect parks and natural areas.

11:30 am – FUTURE VOTER CRAFTS AND ACTIVITIES

Stop by our crafts table where kids can create their own “Future Voter” campaign-style buttons, draw themselves as president, or take part in additional activities provided by the San Antonio League of Women Voters. And be sure to stop by the ballot box to vote for your favorite wildlife inhabitants of Phil Hardberger Park!
